Dear Friends and Members:

With the prediction of an early spring by our regional groundhog, we find ourselves busy in preparation for the 100th birthday celebration of Tray Run Bridge on April 28, 2007. This should be a memorable occasion. Tours from town to the bridge and Cannon Hill will be on the agenda. We have received preliminary interest back from our State Governor along with US and State Representatives to be in attendance. Additionally officials from the B&O railroad museum will be on hand to speak and put o.n a railroad history presentation. The day activities will conclude with dinner being served by our VFW Post, 3008. April 29, the town will be holding their annual May day festival. Some of the events will include selection of festival queen, 5K run, basketball tournament, games and chicken dinner.

We still have some vision for progress on the Civil War, Cannon Hill site project. The requirement levied by the State of WV for us to hire a professional consultant has been accomplished. Basically they will recommend our agreed proposals, insure historical integrity is maintained, submit purposed development plans to the States Department of Highways, the Historical Preservation Office and obtain their blessing and concurrence prior to the start of any work. "These agencies control the grant money and how it will be used." T o help offset some of this cost we have . submitted another grant request for this and hopefully enough funding for future restoration of the original cannon trail.

We are proud to recognize and announce that Tim Weaver is our recipient of this year's State History Hero Award. Tim's involvement in our society and the Town of Rowlesburg have been extraordinary. His contributions and dedication to our successful improvement have been unimaginable. This honor is well deserving and we all owe him a big Thanks!

The Joycelyn A. Ayersman Memorial Scholarship is growing. Approximately three fourths of the $10,000 dollars required has been established. Additional thoughtfulness is still needed and we are hoping this years generous contributions will fulfil the ultimate goal of this fund. We are confident that the first award of this will be made scholarship to a Rowlesburg Area applicant graduating from Preston High School this year.

Hopefully you have not forgotten and are planning to attend our annual Spring Buffet Dinner on May 26, 2007. Come and enjoy a good meal with us and visit old friends. Lots of class reunions will be going on at this time.

A reminder: Yearly membership is coming due in July 2007. All donations are greatly appreciated. We are a 5O1-3C organization. Donations are tax exempt and deductible from taxable income allowed by the Internal Revenue Code.

We encourage your involvement and continued support. If you have any questions, please call Robert Ayersman, President (304) 454-9303. Judy Likins, Vice President (304) 454-9615. MaryEllen Wiles, Secretary (304) 454-9656 or LuciI1e Grimm, Curator (304) 454-9218.

The "new" caboose was donated to RAHS by Harlan Castle of Cool Springs and transported to it's site at the depot by Timothy Weaver. With help from volunteers and out of pocket expense, Tim also gave the caboose new windows and fresh paint to make it a spectacular addition to the depot and to the town of Rowlesburg.
