LABOR DAY WEEKEND IN THE PARK - 2007

Railroad Day - Saturday, September 1, 2007
The Mon Valley Model Railroad Club will be bringing its large 24-foot mobile layout. The Mon Valley Club had its layout at Railroad Reunion Day last year and it was a big hit. The Northern Virginia Ntrak Railroad Club is expected to come back again with its mobile layout, which is also 24 feet in length, and the Clarksburg Area Model Railroad Club will bring three layouts! The model railroad exhibits will be open from noon to 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, and from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday and Monday of Labor Day weekend. The Rowlesburg Area Historical Society will sponsor rides to the top of Cannon Hill so that visitors can get a bird's eye view of the town and the railroad that built it.

Paddle and Pedal Day - Sunday, September 2 , 2007

Several challenging routes will begin and end at the Rowlesburg Park. (1) The 30 mile ride will start at the Rowlesburg Park, follow Salt Lick Road to Terra Alta and return. (2) The 60 mile ride will go south on Rt. 72 to St. George, take Location Road up a steep hill coming out at Amboy and return to Rowlesburg via the Salt Lick Road. (3) The 70 mile "Monster Ride" will follow the same route but will include the Texas Mountain Loop. The bicycling event will start in the Rowlesburg Park at 8:00 A.M. with a hearty breakfast of eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage gravy and plenty of coffee served up by the Rowlesburg Volunteer Firemen! The day includes carnival rides, model train displays, rides up to the top of Cannon Hill. Things will be capped off by a grilled chicken dinner served in the Rowlesburg Park. Be ready for plenty of country cooking.

Annual OX Roast: Labor Day-Monday, September 3, 2007

This is Rowlesburg's modern day Claim to Fame and visitors come from all corners of the
USA to partake in a gastronomic treat found only in the Cheat River Valley.
The Park/Ambulance/Fire (PAF) crew lights the barbecue pit fire on Sunday night so that the ox roasts slowly to a moist, melt-in-your mouth tenderness. The fire is tended all night to make sure your portion is of the high quality you expect. (I've heard rumors that the meat is really roast beef, not ox)
In addition to great food, there will be a carnival, rubber duck race, music and other entertainment, plus a finale of fireworks from Cannon Hill over the river.
